Has it really been six months? Time for an update. Things have been moving apace since last I posted.
Well, actually things haven’t moved much at all. Found lots of rusty bits and holes. The front end now looks like this. Not a pretty sight. A sensible person would be thinking of a re-shell by now, but where’s the fun in that?
Looking on the bright side, there are quite a few shiny bits too. You see what I did there? Oh, suit yourself.
I’m currently creating lots of dust
stripping rust and paint off to see which bits I’m going to have to replace. That would be all of it, then?
The offside inner wing looks particularly horrible, it’s mainly holes and patches. But there again, I always knew this was going to be the worst area – I hope that turns out to be the case!

I took advantage of the recent warm spell to respray the dash with the crinkle-finish paint I’d bought some time ago. I have to say I’m very pleased with the result.
The car itself is now a shell with wheels. So, what to do next? I think maybe I’ll start on some of the welding… now where did I put that idiot’s guide?
Pictures soon, when I remember to take the camera out to the garage.

The seats and carpets are out, along with most of the internal trim. The floor on the passenger side is a bit of a mess, and it’s been patched a few times already, so I have to decide whether to cut out the rot and patch, or replace the whole left hand side of the floor.
Took out the clutch and brake master cylinders along with the box that holds them. There’s very little left in the engine bay now.
Oh, I’ve also taken the doors off, did I mention that?
So, it’s mainly trim to come out now.

Took out the steering wheel AND the steering column. Coo. I’ve never done that to a car before. Also making good progress with removing the rat’s nest (technical term; your layman would probably call it the wiring harness or some such). The engine bay is beginning to look quite bare. Remind me again why I’m doing this?
