Engine OUT!

Saturday, July 31st, 2004

It’s out. I wish I could say it had been fun. More later.

Engine on floor

Crane

I’ve ordered one, it’s ex-demo/refurbed or whatever, from Ebay. Turns out it’s from a supplier in Dumfries. It should be arriving today, then I have to decide what to use to tie it to the engine to lift it out. I have some polypropylene rope which ought to be strong enough, but should I buy some proper lifting straps?

Chris is coming to visit next week, I’m hoping he’ll be keen to help me get the engine out.

Wind beneath my wings

Took the nearside front wing off last night. That’s ‘fender’ if you’re of a transatlantic persuasion. Much easier than the offside one, as it’s in better condition. Not a pretty sight under there, but nowhere near as bad the other side. Several bits of interesting welding. Ho hum. It’ll keep me busy for the next decade anyway.

Fender. Always struck me as a bit strange, that. Is it a reflection on the way Usanians drive? What are they fending off? Each other? Why don’t they use their bumpers like everyone else?
